Proposal Documentation

The IRS determination letter specifies under which section of the Internal Revenue Code the organization is qualified, and is commonly requested from organizations for grant processing. Because the Charles Koch Foundation generally only supports Code Section 501(c)(3) public charities and organizations described in Code Section 509(a)(1), (2), or (3), you must submit IRS verification that your organization is exempt from federal income tax as a Code Section 501(c)(3) organization and is classified as a public charity under Code Section 509(a).

If a copy of the IRS determination letter cannot be obtained, please submit a tax status confirmation letter, like the example found here

The IRS determination letter is issued to university institutions and organization to formally recognize the entity’s tax status.  The document specifies under which section of the Internal Revenue Code the organization is qualified, and is commonly requested from organizations for grant processing.  The IRS determination letter can often be obtained through the development office.

If you are unable to find the IRS document through the development office, please work with your university counsel, tax representative, or legal representatives to draft a letter confirming your organization’s tax status.  Your Foundation contact is also available to help answer questions.

Your proposal will not be considered if the above documents are not submitted.
